Sliding Scale Model
Sew Susty was founded to merge meaningful employment with my passions and explore alternatives within capitalism.
We offer sliding scale to ensure accessibility. Full-cost payments support lower-tier options for those in need. Please note this is not a discount for the sake of a discount, if you are new to this model we encourage you use the provided tools to accurately use the scale.
Use code BACKSTITCH for 20% off (the middle range) or BOBBIN for 30% off (the lower range).
Inspired by Simone Seoul and Worts+Cunning, our model adjusts to financial circumstances and acknowledges class privilege.
Use the bottle photo or guide below to learn more about where you fall on the scale. For service exchanges, email SewSusty@gmail.com.
How to purchase
Adopting a payment model based on individual financial means fosters a fairer approach to pricing goods and services. This framework serves as a guide, encouraging individuals to assess their financial capacity and reflect on their privileges or the obstacles they face within systems. It offers a means to confront the class-based and capitalist structure of our society, promoting collective efforts toward economic equity.
The highest dollar cost (Bobbin Tier) reflects the true cost of the service. If you can comfortably meet all of your basic* needs (as we can see in the full green bottle), if you are able to pay for your ‘wants’ and spend little time worried about securing necessities in your life - this may suggest that you have economic priviledge and that the full price is for you.
The middle range cost (Thimble Cost) is for those who may fall somewhere on the spectrum between the bottom cost and full fee. If you are struggling to overcome debt, build savings or move away from paycheck to paycheck living but have access to steady income and are not spending most of your time thinking about meeting basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care, child care, etc., you belong here.
The bottom cost (Backstitch Tier) represents an honest acknowledgment by the practitioner that there are folks whose economic circumstances would prevent them from accessing this service if there was not be a deliberate opportunity made for them to access at a cost that is reflective of their economic realities. The green bottle on the left provides some indicators on whether this might be where you fall on the scale.
If you need an even deeper discount or want to barter, please email sewsusty@gmail.com. Education for all is a deeply rooted value for me and I would love to find ways to support your sewing journey, even if payment looks a bit untraditional.
